METADATA Metadata is the basic form of data. It is data within every concept. Many sources use metadata as the data of data. Metadata uses anything form the creation, purpose, use, creator, placement, and the further use of data. Some of the sources of metadata are photos, the law, medicine, geospatial data, the internet, and other computer sources that deal with any type of data. The most basic form of metadata is the information that is captured from the computer. This includes when data was developed and how large it is. Other metadata has to be created by those that are using the data. There are six types of metadata used; structural, guide, technical, business, process, and descriptive. Metadata provides much to society in the various ways that it can be used. One of these is the advances in medicine that come from using metadata. The main use of metadata in medicine is that is stores history. It is an easy and widely accessible use of data. Here doctors can store research and allow it to be open for all uses. This then allows other doctors to gain access to the history and provide possible solutions to a medical problem that they may come along on. Ultimately, the use of metadata could give doctors a solution to save a persons life. Another use that metadata is changing society is through the use of geospatial data. Geospatial data has been strongly evolving over the last couple of years. Metadata connects all data that has a specific position on earth. This could be anything from documents to datasets to images. Geospatial data alone opens many opportunities up. Map can be created that store data and information and lay out any type of concept that one is looking for. And this data can be completely pinpointed on to a specific area on the globe. Metadata allows for this data to be openly used. Metadata stores the creation and the way that the data is used for further reference. This allows others to use the data that was creation and to expand on it. Recently the law has been involved on the use of metadata. Official document that businesses put out have requires on what they need to have. There needs to be documentation on when something was created and how it was created. Now the law is requiring that metadata is used on all documentation. This makes sure that the correct date, time, author, and process of documentation is right. The computer in which the metadata is taken from gives this information right when the document is made. Metadata has been used on various legal cases. Since the data that is taken from the metadata comes straight from the source, it is reliable. This data has been used for many legal cases in which one must obtain the correct data and creator of certain business documents. Metadata is used in many forms and used for many reasons. It is the basic data of data and keep things in order. It allows for our society to have correct data about data, while also opening our doors to expanding the use of the data that we have obtained and will obtain.
